PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian met with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif in New York on the sidelines of the 69th session of the UN General Assembly.

The officials welcomed friendly relations between the two neighboring countries and stressed the significance of implementing joint projects and expanding cooperation.

The upcoming mutual visits as well as preparations for the Tehran-hosted Armenian-Iranian Intergovernmental Committee session were on the discussion agenda.

The officials discussed negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program, also exchanging views on regional and international issues, Foreign Ministry press service said.

As was earlier reported, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will visit Armenia in 2014.

Activation of Iranian-Armenian ties, especially in a gas sector, took the interest of Nezavisimaya Gazeta. The article published in the Russian daily - Tehran and Yerevan Readying for Trade Deals - quoted Iranian envoy’s statement suggesting a joint committee is exploring possibilities of Iranian gas transit to the West through Armenia.

The article also dwelled on Iran-Armenia protocols for implementation of a number of projects including construction of electric power transmission lines, gas pipeline, and connection of railway networks of the two countries.
