The controversial programmer was handed a three-and-half-year prison sentence for hacking into computers and illegally downloading files. Warg and a co-defendant were found guilty of the crimes against technology firm CSC by a Danish court in what was described as the "largest hacking case to date". The hacking took place in early 2012, Warg and his associate allegedly gained illegal access to police and security files from CSC. The Pirate Bay founder's defence claimed that, although his computer was used to carry out the breach, he was not the one in control of it at the time. An unnamed hacker allegedly accessed Warg's PC and committed the offences, claims that the jury dismissed as "unlikely". Warg's accomplice was given a six-month jail term, but walked free as he had already served 17 months in pre-trial detention.
