Tom Hanks to publish short stories collection

PanARMENIAN.Net - Tom Hanks has landed a book deal. Publisher Alfred A. Knopf announced on Monday, November 3 that the actor would publish a collection of short stories. The "Captain Phillips" actor's upcoming book will be "loosely connected to photographs of typewriters from Hanks' personal collection," the publisher's statement reveals. There is no more info regarding the book including the title, its release date or the terms of the deal, AceShowbiz said.

"I've been collecting typewriters for no particular reason since 1978 - both manual and portable machines dating from the '30s to '90s. The stories are not about the typewriters themselves, but rather, the stories are something that might have been written on one of them," Hanks said in a press release.

The upcoming project is not the "Saving Private Ryan" actor's first experience with writing. He recently published a short story called "Alan Bean Plus Four" on The New Yorker. The piece, appearing on the October 27 edition, centers on four teenagers who build a rocket to fly to the moon.

Back in August, Hanks' love of typewriter prompted him to launch a typewriter app "Hanx Writer" for iPad. The star of "The Da Vinci Code" said in a Q&A session back then, "I wanted the sound of typing if nothing else... cause I find it's like music that spurs along the creative urge. Bang bang clack-clack-clack puckapuckapuckapucka."
