Laura Dern, Judd Apatow team for female-driven football comedyNovember 5, 2014 - 13:11 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Universal Pictures has picked up a project that sees Laura Dern teaming up with Judd Apatow for an untitled female-driven ensemble comedy set in the world of obsessive female football fans, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Dern conceived the idea and brought it to Apatow. The pair then enlisted Pam Brady, a longtime writer on South Park who also co-wrote Team America: World Police, to write the screenplay. Dern and Apatow will produce — Apatow via his Universal-based Apatow Productions — as will Barry Mendel. Erik Baiers will oversee the project for Universal. Apatow is in postproduction on his latest directorial effort, the Amy Schumer-written comedy Trainwreck, and is exec producing HBO’s Girls, which returns for its fourth season in January 2015. Dern appeared with Shailene Woodley in the weepie hit The Fault in Our Stars and co-stars with Reese Witherspoon in Jean-Marc Vallee’s awards buzz-generating drama Wild, which screened at the Telluride and Toronto film festivals. She also appeared in 99 Homes, another drama that was unveiled at Toronto’s film festival.
