Chairman of the Association of Seismology and Physics of the bowels of Armenia Sergey Balasanian is conferred the UN Sasakawa award. As stated by permanent representative of the UN Development Program in Armenia Joel Butru, professor Balasanian is awarded taking into account his allegiance and big contribution to reduction of seismic risk for many years, as well as the efforts to unite the scientific and political circles. Let us note that Armenia receives the Sasakawa Award for the second time: in 1998 the award was conferred on the entire scientific staff of the Armenian seismic protection service.
