Turkey: Mentally Ill Attacked Catholic Priest
Sunday a Catholic priest was wounded by a mentally sick man. The incident occurred in Samsun port city. Father Pierre Brunissen, 74, ethnic French was hospitalized with knife wounds. His life is out of danger now. AFP reports referring to the police data he was attacked about a kilometer away from Dolorosa Mother Church, where he serves. City Mayor Hasan Basri Guzeloglu told the agency that the attacking person, 47, met with the priest according to a prior agreement and led to the street promising to return a money debt. The malefactor soon yielded himself to the police. Samsun Mayor said the person has "schizophrenia" diagnosis.

Meanwhile according to Anatolia news agency referring to an anonymous source in the Police, the person, who attacked the priest, had earlier made a complaint against father Brunissen for propagating Christianity. Besides, he had been arrested on suspicion of murder of his mother. From the beginning of the year the incident is the third attack on Catholic clergy in Turkey - a country mostly populated by Muslims, which is however a strictly secular state and is proud of its religious tolerance, reports Lenta.ru.
