Sony's above 12-inch tablet is expected to target mainly the high-end segment and its price may exceed $1,000, the sources said. Although Sony has withdrawn from the PC market, it remains aggressive about the tablet product line, the sources noted, according to DigiTimes. The sources believe the tablet sis expected to be manufactured by Pegatron Technology, which is also the manufacturer of Apple's iPad and Microsoft's Surface tablets. Pegatron declined to comment about its orders or clients. The Sony tablet features a 12.9-inch 3,840-by-2,400-resolution display, a Qualcomm processor and 8-megapixel camera, and has a thickness of only 8.6mm. The supply chain has already finished preparing related components for the device's upcoming mass production, the sources detailed. The sources expect more vendors to follow suit and launch large-size tablets in 2015, which is likely to impact demand for notebooks.
