Twitter selling promoted tweets on third-party platforms

PanARMENIAN.Net - Twitter is expanding its advertising ambitions by syndicating Promoted Tweets outside of its own platform, Digital Spy reports.

The company will now charge third-parties to display Promoted Tweets, beginning with Flipboard and Yahoo Japan.

Twitter first began accepting paid marketing tweets from companies in April 2010. They appear on users' feeds regardless of whether they follow the brand.

The microblogging site is hoping to monetise external traffic, after achieving 185 billion tweet views outside of its own platforms in the third quarter of 2014.

"For the thousands of brands already advertising on Twitter, these new partnerships open a significant opportunity to extend the reach of their message to a larger audience," Twitter's senior director Ameet Ranadive said in a blog post.

"Twitter syndicated ads will be seen by users within Twitter content sections on third-party properties, as well as within third-party content areas."

Twitter recently rolled out an update, introducing group messaging and a new video feature to the service.
