Google “working on self-driving taxi service to rival Uber”

PanARMENIAN.Net - Google is said to be developing its own self-driving taxi service to rival Uber.

As Digital Spy reports citing Bloomberg, Google's chief legal advisor and senior vice president of corporate development David Drummond - who is also an Uber board member - informed other executives of the potential plan.

He apparently showed Uber's board screenshots of a Google ride-sharing app which employees are already using.

Many would have expected Uber and Google to partner up on such a project, given that Google invested $258 million in the company in August 2013. However, the latest revelation suggests that Google wants to go it alone.

Drummond joined Uber's board as part of the investment deal back in 2013, but other members are now considering whether it is in Uber's best interests to ask him to resign.

On February 2, it was reported that Uber has enlisted 50 scientists from the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University to begin developing self-driving cars.
