The video-sharing giant was created by three former PayPal employees Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim on February 14, 2005. Although the domain youtube.com was registered on this date, the first video was not uploaded until April 23, which was an 18-second clip of Karim at a zoo.
