Yezz showcases Project Ara modular smartphones at MWCMarch 3, 2015 - 11:19 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Yezz has showcased its Project Ara components ahead of the launch of the modular smartphones later this year, Digital spy reports. Devised by Google, Project Ara handsets will consist of a series of separable components that users can splice together depending on personal preference. Google will provide endoskeletons for the devices, and a variety of manufacturers are developing components to flesh them out. Yezz is manufacturing a range of different components for Project Ara, including processing units, camera sensors and charger modules. Project Ara smartphones will hold 11 modules in total, which attach via a simple slide and magnetic lock system. Modular handsets will bring users greater flexibility, allowing them to upgrade their camera without switching to a new phone, or cherrypick the hardware features they desire and discard those they dislike. Toshiba is also developing parts for Project Ara, and recently unveiled swappable camera sensors that weigh in at 2 megapixels, 5 megapixels and 13 megapixels. Google will initially launch its Project Ara phones in Puerto Rico later this year, with Yezz aiming to develop working versions of its modules by the end of the summer.
