Google unveils Android 5.1 update

PanARMENIAN.Net - Google has announced that it is rolling out its Android 5.1 update, in an apparent attempt to steal Apple's thunder amid the Apple Watch hype, according to Digital Spy.

The update includes the usual stability improvements along with new features, such as support for multiple SIM cards and Device Protection.

Device Protection keeps a lost or stolen handset locked down, even when factory reset is activated, until the user signs into their Google account. It will be available on Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and all devices that ship with Android 5.1 installed.

Google says that support for multiple SIMs will allow users with dual-SIM smartphones to share their device with family members.

Android 5.1 also introduces high-definition voice support on compatible hardware.

The update is now winging its way to Nexus devices, with other Android vendors such as Samsung and HTC expected to roll it out in their own time.
