Israel arrests 29 Palestinians suspected of Hamas links

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Israeli military says it has arrested 29 Palestinians suspected of links to the militant Hamas group in an overnight raid in the West Bank, the Associated Press reports.

Palestinian security officials said Wednesday, April 15, the suspects were nabbed in and near the city of Nablus.

The military said the raid was conducted jointly with police forces and the Israeli Shin Bet security service but provided no further details. Israeli media claimed some of those arrested were planning attacks against Israel.

Hamas spokesman Husam Badran says the arrests reflected Israeli concern over what he described as the "growing power of Hamas despite years of crackdown campaigns."

Hamas rules the Gaza Strip and has a much smaller presence in the West Bank, which is run by its rival President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement.
