Kansas, Massachusetts declare April 24 Genocide Remembrance Day

PanARMENIAN.Net - A delegation from Kansas, USA led by lieutenant governor Jeff Colyer and Adjutant General of Kansas Lee Tafanelli is currently in Yerevan to participate in the Armenian Genocide centennial events.

The delegation, which arrived to the Armenian capital on the invitation of Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, met the ministry’s leadership and attended the Genocide centennial events. As Tafanelli noted at the meeting, this year, April 24 was declared the Genocide Remembrance Day by the ruling of Kansas governor.

The Defense Minister thanked the guests for moral support to the people of Armenia. He stressed the importance of the development of bilateral ties in the sector of defense and a number of programs implemented in the framework of cooperation. In the end of the meeting, the lieutenant governor and the Adjutant General handed the copy of Kansas governor’s ruling, according to Armenia Today.

Also, the governor of Massachusetts Charlie Baker signed a proclamation declaring April 24 the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. According to Armenian National Committee of America, the declaration was made possible through the efforts of the Suffolk University freshman Sahag Kavlakian.
