Andrew Garfield as a priest in Martin Scorsese’s “Silence” 1st lookMay 5, 2015 - 11:31 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Andrew Garfield goes from Spider-Man to 17th century priest in the first look photo from Martin Scorsese‘s latest film, “Silence”, TheWrap reports. EW revealed the first photo, which features Garfield as Father Rodrigues alongside actor Shinya Tsukamoto as a Japanese villager named Mokichi. Based on the novel by Shusako Endo, “Silence” follows two 17th century priests who face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor (Liam Neeson) and spread Christianity. Jay Cocks (“Gangs of New York”) wrote the script, and Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films is financing the movie with Corsan Entertainment. Randall Emmett and George Furla are producing with Emma Tillinger Koskoff and Irwin Winkler. The film recently completed filming in Taiwan, and Scorsese and Garfield met with reporters. “The subject matter presented by Shusaku Endo was in my life since I was very, very young,” the director told the crowd, according to EW. “I was very much involved in religion, I was raised in a strong Catholic family. … Further reflection is how [we] want to lead our life in the Christian faith … so ultimately this book drew my attention when it was given to me in 1988.” “Silence” will be released in 2016.
