Tom Hanks’ “The Circle” sold worldwide to independent territories

PanARMENIAN.Net - IM Global announced Wednesday, May 20 that they have sold the rights to the Tom Hanks vehicle “The Circle” to a large number of independent territories in lieu of a multi-territory studio deal, TheWrap reports.

“We had several chances to sell multiple territories to one or more major studios but chose to stand support our independent brothers in these challenging times given the big commercial potential of the film,” the company said. “Our marketplaces needs these kind of movies.”

“The Circle” is based on the novel of the same name by Dave Eggers. It follows a woman (Alicia Vikander) who goes to work for an internet company called The Circle.

The company, run out of a sprawling California campus, links users’ personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system. She eventually takes up with a mysterious older man (Hanks).

Hanks produced the film under his Playtone banner in addition to starring. It was directed by James Ponsoldt, who also adapted the novel for the screenplay.

UTA and CAA are co-repping domestic rights to the project UTA Independent Film Group packaged and helped secure financing for, along with CAA.
