LG's G5 smartphone “to feature iris-recognition technology”May 30, 2015 - 19:55 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Biometric security is slowly gaining traction in the smartphone world, and the latest reports suggest that LG is embracing new developments in this field, Digital Spy reports. The Korean firm teamed up with biometric specialist IRIENCE to bring its state-of-the-art eye-scanning system to its next flagship smartphone, according to G for Games. The LG G5 could be more than a year away, but the report suggests that the feature is being touted as a selling point for the 2016 device. IRIENCE is apparently refining its iris-recognition system to work from 50cm away, so users don't have to bury their face in their handset to activate it. Eye-scanning technology allows users to unlock their phone at a glance, and is considered more secure than other biometric systems, such as facial-recognition. LG is currently working on its G4 Note smartphone, but the biometric feature is not expected to be ready in time for this device.
