“Mad Max: Fury Road” tops $300 million at worldwide box office

PanARMENIAN.Net - Warner Bros.’ “Mad Max: Fury Road” has topped the $300 million mark at the worldwide box office in just over three weeks, Variety reports.

The studio said Saturday, June 6 that the Tom Hardy-Charlize Theron actioner, directed by George Miller, has taken in $125.1 million domestically and another $177 million in 70 international markets.

“Fury Road” has launched three decades after Miller’s last Mad Max feature, “Beyond Thunderdome,” bowed in 1985. The latest installment, which is set amid a post-apocalyptic Australian wasteland, was financed by Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow to the tune of $150 million.

The tentpole took in $2.3 million at 2,720 U.S. locations on Friday, its 22nd day in theaters, and should finish its fourth weekend with about $8 million — a 43% decline.

International grosses have been led by South Korea, which reached $23.5 million after three weekends, followed by the U.K. with $21.3 million, France with $14 million, Australia with $12.9 million, Russia with $12.1 million and Brazil with $9 million.

“Fury Road” opens in Japan on June 20. It has not yet set a Chinese release.
