Oprah Winfrey, David Oyelowo to produce Disney’s "The Water Man"

Oprah Winfrey and David Oyelowo are in discussions with Disney to produce new movie "The Water Man", according to Deadline. If the deal is sealed, David will also star in the movie as Amos. The project is written by newbie writer Emily Needell. Prior to selling the project to Disney, Emily worked as assistant director to writer-director couple Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett, AceShowbiz reports.

"The Water Man" centers on a precocious young boy named Gunner who, in order to save his sick mother, runs away from home to find a magical figure called The Water Man, who has been rumored to be able to cheat death. Gunner isn't close with his father, Amos, and the journey forces them to learn about each other as Amos goes on the search for his son.

It has elements of "Stand by Me" with a vibe of Steven Spielberg's classic films like "E.T." or "Close Encounters of the Third Kind".

Oprah and David previously worked together in "Selma" which received four Golden Globe nominations including Best Motion Picture-Drama, Best Director, Best Actor and won one for Best Original Song. It was also nominated for Oscars' Best Picture and brought home Best Original Song Award.
