Instagram overhauls Explore section

Instagram has pushed out a major update that overhauls its Explore page and introduces broader search options, Digital Spy reports.

The photo service wants to be the go-to place for moment-by-moment updates, adding trending Tags and Places to bring users real-time content.

These real-time updates will appear alongside the targeted posts - based on things the user has liked and who they have followed - served up by the previous system.

Curated collections of photos based on specific subject matter will appear at the top of the page, updated twice a week.

The revamped search engine allows users to carry out queries based on places, rather than just people and tags, while the Top Search option trawls all three fields.

"With more than 70 million photos and videos posted to Instagram every day, wherever something is happening, chances are you can see it here," said the Instagram team in a blog post.

"Rich visual content captures everyone's unique take - not just what the community is talking about, but also what they're doing and seeing."

The latest update is available to download today. The revamped Explore page is US-only for the time being, but Instagram plans to roll out all of the new features globally.
