“The Paradise Suite” to rep Netherlands in foreign Oscars raceSeptember 8, 2015 - 16:18 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Joost van Ginkel’s “The Paradise Suite”, which will world premiere at Toronto, is set to represent the Netherlands in the foreign-language Oscar nominations’ race, Variety reports. Pic depicts the lives of six people from different places and backgrounds who become inextricably linked in Amsterdam. Penned by van Ginkel, the movie is “a profound and lyrical reflection on human resilience in the face of ongoing evil within 21st Century Europe,” stated the Dutch film institute. The film’s characters include a young Bulgarian woman, an African woman, Serbian war criminal, a Bosnian man, a Swedish piano prodige and his father. Set to premiere in Toronto’s Discovery section, “Paradise Suite” features an international cast: Issaka Sawadogo (The Invader), Anjela Nedyalkova (Avé), Magnus Krepper (The Bridge), Raymond Thiry (Between 10 and 12) and Dragan Bakema (Brownian Movement). in Discovery section. Van Ginkel is an up-and-coming director. His debut “170 HZ” played at Busan and won the Golden Calf audience nod the Netherlands film fest. His short film “Sand” premiered in Venice and won multiple awards in various festivals. “Paradise Suite” is produced by the Dutch companies PRPL and Bastide Films, in co-production with GötaFilm, Sweden’s Film Väst and Bulgaria’s KaBoAl Pictures. Media Luna New Films handles international sales. Academy Awards nominations will be unveiled on Jan.14, while 88th Oscars ceremony will take place Feb. 28.
