World’s first 8K display to go on sale in October

PanARMENIAN.Net - The first 8K display you can actually buy is set to go on sale in Japan next month, Digital Spy reports.

Sharp's LV-85001 is an 85-inch monitor aimed at professionals, but even they'll struggle to get the most out of it since the only 8K content in existence is test footage.

Nevertheless, Sharp's new LDC panel is certainly impressive, displaying imagery at the eye-melting resolution of 7,680 x 4,320 pixels, 16 times that of 1080p.

A device would need to plug into all four of the monitor's HDMI ports to display footage in 8K, but that's a minor inconvenience compared to the LV-85001's price tag of 16,000,000 yen.

Before you toss your 4K telly aside and remortgage the house, it's important to note that 8K broadcasts are not schedule to begin until 2018, and they're unlikely to gain traction until a few years after that.

However, those who insist on early adoption will be able to watch one clip at the top resolution - YouTube short film Ghost Towns, which became the video network's first 8K clip when it debuted over the summer.
