In Fulfilling Its Interests Russia Should "Allot" Certain Role to Armenia
The sense of the Russian-Armenian strategic union for Armenia should lie in expanding the opportunities of participation of the country in international labor division, in effective accession to the world economy and understanding and realizing its role and functions in regional energy projects, former PM of Armenia, Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University Rector Armen Darbinyan stated during a lecture at the University. "As for Russia "energy diplomacy" is a major component of foreign policy, I believe in fulfilling its interests Russia should "allot" certain role and function to Armenia. In its turn Armenia has a full right to count not only on understanding of energy problems, but also active participation of Russia in implementation of Armenian energy interests in the region," he remarked.

"Until now, unfortunately, only flabby energy expansion of Russia is only observed. And the increase of Gazprom share in the joint stock of ArmRosgazprom Armenian operator via additional emission of shares should be considered exactly within that context," Armen Darbinyan said. "In my opinion it would be reasonable if the Armenian Government, which held 45% of ArmRosgazprom shares before the emission mentioned, conditioned its agreement to additional emission by a number of circumstances that are significant from the point of view of turning Armenia into a full player at the regional energy market. These are: expansion of export opportunities of electric power to Georgia by building of a new high-voltage electric main, political and economic support of the strategic partner in launching available electric main to Turkey having the capacity of 400W, political support in Armenia securing its right to generate nuclear energy, coordination of the positions of the parties over fulfillment of Armenia's strategic interest in transit of Iranian gas," the former PM of Armenia said. "This is how in my opinion the strategic alliance with Russia could take place," Darbinyan concluded, Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University Press Secretary Roman Nadiryan told PanARMENIAN.Net.
