Armenian MPs to back Syria on all int’l platforms: speakerOctober 22, 2015 - 16:21 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Speaker of the National Assembly Galust Sahakyan met with his Syrian counterpart Mohammad Jihad al-Laham on the sidelines of the 133rd Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in Geneva. At the meeting, Sahakyan expressed Armenia’s concern over the developments in Syria. “We are more than friends with Syria that warmheartedly accepted the Armenian Genocide survivors,” Sahakyan noted. Dwelling on the Armenian-Syrian parliamentary cooperation, Sahakyan noted that Deputy Speakers regularly visit Syria, observe the situation on the spot and report back. According to Sahakyan, current wars and military actions with genocidal features stall full condemnation of the Armenian Genocide and other crimes against humanity. Sahakyan expressed confidence that Armenian parliamentarians will back Syria on all international platforms. Inviting Sahakyan to Syria, al-Laham thanked his colleague for the meeting and asked him to convey President Bashar al-Assad’s gratitude to his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan. The Syrian Speaker further voiced his distress over international community’s double standards on Syria. Top stories Six total incidents have burned 19 old-growth trees.
