The teaser is accompanied by Chopin’s Prelude in E Minor, a dramatic piano piece that guides the viewer through the messy and depressing relationship of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s characters in the film. The film follows an American writer named Roland (Pitt) and his wife, Vanessa (Jolie), who arrive in a tranquil and picturesque seaside resort in 1970s France, their marriage in apparent crisis. As they spend time with fellow travelers, including young newlyweds Lea (Mélanie Laurent) and François (Melvil Poupaud) and village locals Michel (Niels Arestrup) and Patrice (Richard Bohringer), the couple begins to come to terms with unresolved issues in their own lives. The film is a family affair, as Jolie wrote the screenplay, directed and produced through her production company, Jolie Pas, while Pitt also produced through his production company Plan B Entertainment. “By the Sea” debuts in theaters on November 13.
