Google exposes major security flaws with Samsung's Galaxy S6 Edge

PanARMENIAN.Net - Google has exposed 11 major security flaws with Samsung's Galaxy S6 Edge handset, forcing the Korean firm to scramble into patching action, Digital Spy reports.

The web giant's security analyst team Project Zero were tasked with rooting out the vulnerabilities for the good of the Android ecosystem.

Google likes to keep its manufacturing partners on their toes and sought out the bugs to see how long it would take Sammy to address them.

It was pleased with the results, as Samsung confirmed that eight of the 11 flaws were corrected in its October Maintenance Release, right after Google brought them to light. The remaining three were dubbed lower-severity and will be fixed at a later date.

"It is promising that the highest severity issues were fixed and updated on-device in a reasonable time frame," said Project Zero researcher Natalie Silvanovich in a blog post.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge was released alongside the non-curved S6 in April. Both handsets launched to critical acclaim, but failed to meet sales expectations.
