BlackBerry hits new low, gets left behind by Samsung's Tizen OS

PanARMENIAN.Net - It's only running on a handful of smart TVs, the Gear S2 smartwatch, and a couple of entry-level smartphones, but Samsung's Tizen OS has a bigger market share than BlackBerry, Digital Spy reports.

The struggling Canadian phone maker has hit a new low as its operating systems are no longer the fourth most popular in the world, according to figures from Strategy Analytics.

The stats indicate that Android marginally increased its lead as the number one OS during the third quarter of 2015, while Apple gained ground on Google with strong iPhone sales.

Microsoft remains in a distant third with Windows Phone, but lost ground on the top two, with BlackBerry and Firefox seeing similar losses.

Tizen enjoyed "tangible growth" and superseded BlackBerry into fourth place, casting doubt on whether the BB10 software has a long-term future.

BlackBerry had adopted the Android operating system for its latest smartphone - the slider keyboard-packing Priv - which many consider the company's last chance to secure its future in the consumer handset market.
