VivaCell-MTS, FPWC install LED lighting systems in rural areas

Lichk community of Gegharqunik Province has been provided with street lighting within the frames of the Alternative Energy Project. The Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) and VivaCell-MTS joined efforts to install LED street lighting system in the village.

VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian, FPWC founder Ruben Khachatryan, head of Lichk community Gnel Grigoryan and community residents attended the launch of the system.

The village with over 5000 residents had to go without outdoor lighting since the collapse of the Soviet Union. The situation slightly improved 10 years ago when a street lighting system was installed on the central street of the community. In the frames of the Alternative Energy Project, supporting poles and 47 LED street lights were installed.

As Yirikian noted in this context, the program has two components: environmental and social. “Thanks to the opportunities of modern technologies, we protect the environment on one hand and alleviate the social burden of the villagers on the other.”

The environmentally friendly and energy-efficient LED lights will reduce energy costs by up to 80%. Outdoor lighting will be provided from 10:00 pm to 1:00 am in summer, from 6:30 pm to 12:00 am in winter, and all night long on holidays. LED bulbs are efficient and durable, lasting much longer than the regular ones.

The FPWC and VivaCell-MTS welcome the use of latest technologies in environment protection initiatives, promoting nature conservation, energy efficiency and community development.
