Gerard Butler as Set, god of desert in

PanARMENIAN.Net - Gerard Butler, who first made wave in Hollywood through his role as Spartan leader Leonidas in "300", is back to the sword-and-sandals genre in "Gods of Egypt". First trailer of the action fantasy directed by Alex Proyas shows a lot of cool CGI effects that make the monsters and myths alive, AceShowbiz reports.

Butler plays Set, the god of the desert, storms, and foreigners who steals the magical eye from Horus, played by "Game of Thrones" star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. The son of fallen god Osiris sought revenge against Set for killing his father. When his attempt to avenge Osiris' death failed resulting in his eyes being plucked out, it's up to Brenton Thwaites' human thief in love with a slave to help take down the mad god.

The trailer comes quite early with the movie only being released February 26, 2016. Character posters were released earlier this month, sparking controversy for the lack of colored cast. Apart from Chadwick Boseman who plays god Thoth, most of the main characters are played by white people.

"Movie, #GodsOfEgypt in which everyone is white? Egyptians, in history and today, have NEVER been white. BRING BACK GEOGRAPHY!! It's Africa!" actress Bette Midler tweeted. Even Boseman's casting is called typical "magical negro." One Twitter user wrote, "Just because Chadwick Boseman is 'African American' doesn't mean he was appropriately cast either (ya'll gotta hear that too) #GodsOfEgypt."
