Azerbaijan extradites Armenian serviceman to Karabakh sideNovember 18, 2015 - 15:17 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijan extradited a Karabakh Defense Army contract soldier to the Karabakh side on Wednesday, November 18, at 1:30 pm. Andranik Grigoryan had gone across to the Azerbaijani side on March 22, 2015, deserting the frontline military post of a Karabakh Defense Army unit, located in the eastern part of the contact line. Grigoryan's extradition to the Karabakh side was mediated by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) mission in the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, near Bash Karvend settlement. The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army.
