Windows 10 Mobile mainstream support “ends early 2019”

Microsoft's Lumia 950 handsets have only just brought Windows 10 Mobile into the world, and we already have word about when support for the operating system is due to end, Digital Spy reports.

According to a leaked roadmap uncovered by GSM Arena, both the business and consumer versions of the software will exit mainstream support on January 8, 2019.

This suggests that Windows 10 Mobile users are in for 36 months' worth of updates, but the frequency and schedule for those updates is unclear.

The Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL are the first flagship devices to come with the mobile version of Windows 10 preloaded, but the operating system is coming to existing handsets in the coming months.

The Lumia 630, 635, 640, 735, and 830 are set to receive the update on December 14, while the Lumia 520, 532, 625, 720, 820, 920, 925, 930, 1020, and 1320 should follow suit next February.

Microsoft is yet to reveal its plans for smartphone beyond Windows 10 Mobile.
