MGM to adapt hit children's book “The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip”December 11, 2015 - 16:19 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Mike Jones has closed a deal to write “The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip” for MGM, based on the popular children’s book by George Saunders, sources have confirmed to Variety. Jones and Saunders will also produce the animated feature. The book, which debuted in 2000 to critical acclaim, is described by its publisher Random House as a modern fable for people of all ages that touches on the power of kindness, generosity, compassion and community. Set in the seaside village of Frip, the stories follow three families: the Romos, the Ronsens and a little girl named Capable and her father, not to mention the gappers, bright orange, many-eyed creatures the size of softballs that love to attach themselves to goats. Jones is a writer in high demand, having most recently penned the “Sesame Street” movie for Fox, which has Shawn Levy on board to produce. He is currently penning an untitled “USS Indianapolis” film for Warner Bros., Team Downey and Tate Taylor. The news was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.
