Colin Firth, Jude Law’s “Genius” to premiere at Berlin Film Festival

PanARMENIAN.Net - Michael Grandage’s “Genius”, starring Colin Firth, Jude Law and Nicole Kidman, will world premiere at the 66th Berlin Film Festival in February. The film, which was scripted by John Logan, tells the true story of the complex relationship between literary giant Thomas Wolfe and iconic editor Max Perkins, Variety reports.

Another world premiere at Berlin will be sci-fi thriller “Midnight Special,” starring Michael Shannon, Joel Edgerton and Kirsten Dunst. Director Jeff Nichols, who broke through with “Mud” and “Take Shelter,” delivers a tale about a nationwide manhunt for a father and his son who has supernatural powers.

Also world premiering is Vincent Perez’s “Alone in Berlin,” starring Brendan Gleeson, Emma Thompson and Daniel Bruhl. The story centers on an ordinary couple living in Berlin during World War II. When their only child is killed fighting at the front, their loss propels them into an extraordinary act of resistance.

Further Berlin world premieres revealed Friday, December 11 include Alex Gibney’s documentary “Zero Days,” and Denis Cote’s “Boris without Beatrice,” which stars James Hyndman, Simone-Elise Girard and Denis Lavant.

All five films screen in the Competition section. They join the previously announced opening film “Hail, Caesar!” by Joel and Ethan Coen, which will be playing out of competition.

In the Berlinale Special section, documentary “The Seasons in Quincy: Four Portraits of John Berger,” which was helmed by Colin MacCabe, Christopher Roth, Bartek Dziadosz and Tilda Swinton, will world premiere. Also in that section are Michael Moore’s documentary “Where to Invade Next” and Morgan Neville’s documentary “The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble,” which both make their European premieres.

The festival runs Feb. 11-21.
