Apple “to be the next to hop onto VR bandwagon”January 23, 2016 - 14:54 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Almost every major tech company wants in on VR, and it sounds like Apple could be the next firm to hop onto the virtual bandwagon, Digital Spy said. The iPhone maker has reportedly hired Virginia Tech professor Doug Bowman, a virtual reality expert who has won an award for his HoloLens projects. According to the Financial Times, Professor Bowman is renowned for his work in 3D user interfaces for both virtual and augmented reality experiences. It is unclear what his role will be at Apple, but the appointment has sparked rumours that the Cupertino firm could be planning to take on Oculus Rift, the HTC Vive and Sony's PlayStation VR with a headset of its own. “This isn't the first piece of evidence that suggests Apple is interested in VR - we've previously seen patent filings for iPhone headset accessories, plus the firm worked on that 360-degree music video for U2,” Digital Spy said. It is also possible that the company has brought in Bowman to assist with its rumoured electric car project, providing 3D and gesture-controlled interfaces for the top secret vehicle.
