In the Field of Nagorno Karabakh Conflict 2006 Can be Characterized Positively
During the last several years the talks on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict are being held in the frameworks of 'Prague Process'. As says the annual report on Armenia's foreign activity 'during this period a number of meetings took place between both the presidents and foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan. During those meetings were discussed ways to solve the conflict. In the field of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict 2006 can be characterized positively: it performed some progress. The 2006 one more time confirmed that the basis for solving the problem is peaceful settlement through compromises. The NKR people's right for self-determination is at the center of negotiation process, which found its reflection in the document under discussion on the principles of settlement. On the whole, during the last year the OSCE MG Co-Chairs visited the region 7 times, 4 of which in the presence of all Co-Chairs. Alongside, the mediators had meetings with conflicting sides out of the region.

The presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan met in Rambuje (France) on February and Bucharest on June. In Paris the Foreign Ministers of the two countries had discussions on June, which can be considered as first steps to bring closer the positions of the sides after Bucharest. On June in Vienna the OSCE MG Co-Chairs introduced a report to the OSCE Permanent Council on the situation of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement process, which also included the meetings of Armenian and Azeri presidents and foreign ministers during the last two years. On October under the aegis of OSCE MG took place two meetings between Armenian and Azeri foreign ministers in Moscow and Paris, during which new ideas and approaches were discussed suggested by the mediators. For additional clarifying of the positions of two sides, according to the reached agreement, the Armenian and Azeri foreign ministers held one more meeting in Brussels on November, which was followed by OSCE MG Co-Chairs visit to the region.

On November in the framework of CIS summit in Minsk negotiations took place between the presidents of two countries, which were estimated as positive and constructive both from the point of view of atmosphere and the approaches by the sides. Some principles of settlement were discussed, which still are on the stage of coordination. A decision was made that after examination of the positions of the sides the foreign ministers will be given clear commissions on further actions.
