New War to Be Calamity Not Only for Karabakh or Azerbaijan
"Caucasus is far away. It's a knotty place, even more knotty than the Balkans. That is why the West's attention should be drawn here," said the author of the "Black Garden", British journalist Thomas de Waal. In his words, the Palestinian conflict and developments in Iraq draw more attention than the Karabakh issue. "However, I think that the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline prove gradual increase of interests of the European and NATO in the region," he noted.

At that the journalist said he doesn't believe in a magic resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. "Talks are going on over 10 years but the genuine process has not started yet. I know that a new war will be a calamity not only for Karabakh or Azerbaijan. It will cover new territories and Azeri youth will be its first victims coming across mines. Serious moves should be taken for real progress. Both sides should demonstrate mutual respect and discuss the possibility of joint future after conclusion of a peaceful agreement and opening of borders," he said. He also underscored that "Azerbaijan should remember that besides a territory called Nagorno Karabakh there are also people, the Armenians of Karabakh." "Talks should be held with them. They should be presented the possibilities of living within Azerbaijan. For their part the Armenians of Karabakh should not forget about the existence of Karabakhi Azeris, who also possess the right to line on this territory. Everyone should speak of importance of peaceful agreement. It's impossible to change the map," he said, reports Analitika.az.
