McConaughey suicidal in Gus Van Sant's

PanARMENIAN.Net - Gus Van Sant's "The Sea of Trees" has released its first trailer in Japanese version. Ken Watanabe provides an introduction to the drama which also stars Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey, AceShowbiz said.

McConaughey stars as an American man by the name of Arthur Brennan who visits Japan to kill himself. He goes to Aokigahara Forest, one of the world's most notorious suicide destinations, and accidentally meets a Japanese man named Takumi Nakamura (Watanabe) who intends to end his life too.

While in the forest, they talk about the matter of life and death while juggling the rough terrains. "Things are not what they seem here," Nakamura says. "This place is what you call purgatory." The trailer also provides flashbacks into Brennan's private life including his relationship with his wife Joan, played by Naomi Watts.

In May last year, a clip from the film shows how Brennan leads Nakamura out of the forest, only to find out that they are completely lost.

This is the first project that McConaughey signed up to after winning an Oscar for "Dallas Buyers Club". He shot the film in summer 2014 after completing his work in Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar".

"Sea of Trees" actually premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last year to harsh reviews, thus prompting the delay. There is no U.S. release date yet, but it is expected to open in Japan pretty soon.
