“Deadpool” tops box office, becomes biggest “X-Men” film ever

PanARMENIAN.Net - "Deadpool" is just unstoppable. Following its record-setting opening, the Ryan Reynolds-starring movie adds an estimated $55 million in its second weekend to maintain its position on the top of the domestic chart, AceShowbiz reports.

With 10-day domestic gross of $235.39 million, the R-rated movie has officially become the highest-grossing "X-Men" film in the U.S. It surpassed its predecessors "X-Men: The Last Stand" ($234.36 million), "X-Men: Days of Future Past" ($233.9 million) and "X-Men 2" ($214.95 million) among other titles in the "X-Men" film franchise.

Overseas, the movie earned additional $85 million in its second weekend for a total foreign haul of $256.3 million and worldwide gross of $491.7 million. It's now on track to become the top R-rated movie in history, surpassing "The Matrix Reloaded" which collected a total of $742.1 million.

This week's newcomers "Risen" and "The Witch" didn't give "Deadpool" any strong competitions. The biblical resurrection tale lands on the third place with approximately $11.8 million, while the horror flick debuts on No. 4 with an estimated $8.7 million.

"Kung Fu Panda 3" still holds on to the runner-up place with additional $12.5 million, while "How to Be Single" drops two places to No. 5 with an estimated $8.2 million.
