YouTube gets Geo Search tool for finding local vids

PanARMENIAN.Net - A group of enterprising developers have created a location-based search tool for YouTube so you can check whether there have been any video uploads in your local area, Digital Spy reports.

The web-based Geo Search help users find footage that originated from their neighbourhood by whittling down search results by postcode.

And you can narrow things down even further by searching for clips based on how many kilometres the uploader is to the postcode you entered.

Results can also be filtered by timestamp and keywords, as well as radius.

Although the search tool does what it says on the tin, it is by no means a definitive way to isolate every YouTube video near you, as only a small percentage of them are geo-tagged, Digital Spy said.

In other YouTube news, it was reported last month that the Google-owned network wants to get into 360-degree video streaming and has held discussions with camera manufacturers to make this a reality.
