New report says chemical weapons used 161 times in Syrian war

A new report claims that chemical weapons have been used at least 161 times in Syria's five-year civil war and caused almost 1,500 deaths.

According to the Associated Press, the Syrian American Medical Society says its report released Monday, March 14, is the most comprehensive listing of chemical weapons attacks in Syria so far.

The organization is asking the 15-member UN Security Council and the international community to quickly identify perpetrators and hold them accountable.

Syria's government has been accused of using chemical weapons on its people, even after the Security Council in 2013 ordered the elimination of its chemical weapons program. The council last year also condemned the use of toxic chemicals like chlorine. The government denies any attacks.

The report says such attacks are increasing, and more than 14,500 people have been injured in all.
