Octavia Spencer to topline Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming Cold War movie

PanARMENIAN.Net - Octavia Spencer is in negotiations to star in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming Cold War movie for Fox Searchlight, Variey reports.

Del Toro is writing, producing and directing the currently untitled film. The otherworldly love story is set against the backdrop of Cold War-era America circa 1963.

Del Toro had been weighing several films, but this mystery project was always a top priority, according to sources close to the pic. Shooting will start sometime this summer.

Spencer is on board to reprise her role in “The Divergent Series: Allegiant” and is also set to play God in “The Shack,” which bows later this year. She recently filmed Marc Webb’s “Gifted” opposite Chris Evans.

She also just landed a lead role as a mathematician in Fox 2000’s “Hidden Figures,” co-starring Taraji P. Henson.

Del Toro most recently directed the gothic thriller “Crimson Peak,” toplined by Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain. He’s been developing a stop-motion animated “Pinocchio” project since 2008.

He’s also currently writing the screenplay for “Pacific Rim: Maelstrom” and working on FX vampire horror-drama “The Strain,” which he created with Chuck Hogan, based on their novel trilogy of the same name.
