Gina Gershon cast opposite Charlie Sheen in “9/11” indie drama

Gina Gershon has been cast opposite Charlie Sheen in the indie drama “Nine Eleven” along with Luis Guzman, Wood Harris, Olga Fonda and Whoopi Goldberg, Variety reports.

She is portraying the estranged wife of a billionaire businessman (played by Sheen) who, along with a bike messenger, a young executive and a building maintenance worker, finds herself trapped in an elevator in the North Tower of the World Trade Center on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001.

Producers are Warren Ostergard, Dahlia Waingort and Martin Sprock, with Mark Burg, Ryan R. Johnson and Rodric David exec producing. It’s directed by Martin Guigui from a script he co-wrote with Steven Golebiowski.

Variety first reported the news of the project on March 7.

“Nine Eleven” is being shot entirely at Thunder Studios in Long Beach, Calif. Thunder Studios is co-producing with Sprockefeller Pictures, Vitamin A Films, Sunset Pictures, Filmhouse and Primary Wave. International sales are being handled by Good Universe.

Thunder has secured $4 million in P&A funding for the film, based on a joint venture with Struans Media to support the studio’s existing business units and provide additional capital for the Thunder Studios family of companies. Struans Media manages the division.

Gershon most recently wrapped the independent film “Permission,” starring alongside Rebecca Hall and Dan Stevens.
