James Haven, Angelina Jolie’s brother, to helm “The Last Boy” sci-fi

PanARMENIAN.Net - James Haven, the multi-hyphenate brother of Angelina Jolie, has signed on to direct the sci-fi/fantasy movie “The Last Boy” for Traffic City Productions, TheWrap has exclusively learned.

Josh Monkarsh, Asher Levin and Kristin Scott Irving will produce the indie movie. Milo Addica wrote the script, which is based on Thomas M. Burby’s novel “The Last Boy on Earth.”

Set in the present-day cities of Bangor and Brewer in central Maine following the advent of an airborne virus that has ravaged humanity, the story follows a teenager named Brady, the last boy on Earth, as he searches for fellow survivors of the deadly pandemic.

In the world of The Abandonment, imagination is a force to be reckoned with, young women can wade into the River Styx and return unscathed, and young men can battle demons with a little perseverance.

Addica previously wrote the Nicole Kidman thriller “Birth” as well as the Halle Berry drama “Monster’s Ball,” which featured Haven as a hospital guard and co-starred his former brother-in-law, Billy Bob Thornton. Haven also appeared alongside Jolie in the 2001 thriller “Original Sin” and had a supporting role in the 2006 horror-thriller “Stay Alive” with Milo Ventimiglia and Sophia Bush.

Lately, Haven has been focused on his career as a filmmaker, writing and directing the short film “Court of Conscience” starring his father, Jon Voight, and Anton Yelchin (“Star Trek”). He previously executive produced a pair of shorts as well as Heather Rae’s feature documentary “Trudell,” and directed an episode of “The Game.” He’s represented by manager Oren Segal at MPE.

Burby is a teacher, musician and writer who currently resides in Bangor, Maine. “The Last Boy on Earth” is his first published novel and the film will serve as Haven’s feature directorial debut.
