Sundance Selects nabs Marion Cotillard’s “From Land of Moon”

PanARMENIAN.Net - Sundance Selects has acquired U.S. rights to “From the Land of the Moon”, a dramatic love story starring Marion Cotillard, Variety has learned. The sale was based on promotional footage shown at the Berlin Film Festival last month.

“From the Land of the Moon,” adapted from the best-selling novel by Milena Agus, follows a French woman in post-World War II Europe who’s torn between the man she’s meant to marry (Àlex Brendemühl) and a charming war veteran (Louis Garrel).

The movie is directed by Nicole Garcia, who also wrote the script with Jacques Fieschi. It was produced by Alain Attal of Les Productions du Tresor.

Sundance Selects, the sister label to IFC Films, has recently released Andrew Haigh’s “45 Years,” Olivier Assayas’ “Clouds of Sils Maria” and the Dardenne brothers’ “Two Days, One Night,” which earned Cotillard a best actress Oscar nomination in 2015.

The deal was negotiated with Studiocanal on behalf of the filmmakers.

“We’re delighted to have Sundance Selects on board for the U.S. distribution of ‘From the Land of the Moon,’ and we look forward to working with them to make the film a success,” said Anna Marsh, the head of international film sales, adding that the project was Studiocanal’s best French seller out of Berlin, clinching Japan (New Select) and other territories.
