Duran Duran perform cover tribute to David Bowie

PanARMENIAN.Net - 'Ordinary World' pop heroes Duran Duran have delivered a beautiful tribute to their idol and friend David Bowie, Gigwise reports.

The 'Rio' pop veterans have been performing a mix of their first hit single 'Planet Earth' with 1969's classic 'Space Oddity' throughout their recent US tour dates - honouring the star that frontman Simon Le Bon once referred to as 'a God'

"I love everything he's done," said Le Bon. "He was so important to me growing up, and helped me towards a sense of identity. And having been lucky enough to get to know him a little, I can say that he's a proper gentleman and hasn't in any way disappointed me.

"He's a proper artist. It's all about the music, and the attendant fame means nothing to him. He always conducts himself perfectly too, which is inspiring in itself. You worry about meeting your heroes, but with David there's been nothing at all to fear."

Speaking to Gigwise about his opinion on modern pop last year, Le Bon said: "I wouldn't want to get stuck into criticising modern pop music in general because I don't think it deserves it. There are fantastic modern acts out there - people like Tame Impala, fka Twigs and Charli XCX. What we've seen in the last 15 years is the rise of Saturday night music, television music.

"Because it's supposed to cater to the lowest common denominator, your pre-teenage kids to your grannies as well - a lot of the sharpness has been taken off it. I'm always a big supporter and a big fan of the independent bands who don't have a big backing, a television contract and management behind them."

He added: "Music is a very healthy business, it's not going to go away and it's not going to get killed off by the X Factor."
