"Avatar" getting 4 sequels, James Cameron announces

PanARMENIAN.Net - The "Avatar" universe is getting bigger and bigger. James Cameron previously planned three sequels for his hugely-popular movie, but now the director announces that he and his creative team are adding another follow-up story to the franchise, AceShowbiz said.

"We have decided to embark on a truly massive cinematic process," the filmmaker opens up during Fox's panel at CinemaCon in Las Vegas as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter. "We began to bump up against the limitations for our art form."

"I've been working the last couple of years with a team of four top screenwriters to design the world of Avatar going forward: The characters, the creatures, the environment, the new cultures," he continues. "So far, the art I'm seeing, is in pure imagination, really far beyond the first film. It's going to be a true epic saga."

The first sequel, "Avatar 2", is scheduled for Christmas 2018, getting pushed back from the original 2017 release. "Avatar 3" is set for Christmas 2020, "Avatar 4" is expected to arrive Christmas 2022, and "Avatar 5" is planned for Christmas 2023.
