Sony shipped a massive 17.7 million PS4s in 2015April 30, 2016 - 12:22 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Sony is breaking records left, right and centre with the PS4, Digital Spy said. The company just posted its latest financial results for the fiscal year ending March 31, and it's good news for the gaming division. The company managed to ship a staggering 17.7 million PS4s over the course of the year, which is up by nearly 3 million on the year before. That takes the total number of units sold to 40 million, which really is very good considering it's still less than 3 years old. Sony's game and network division earned $13.7 billion, which is up by 11.8% over the previous year. That's despite the natural decline in PS3 sales, although even that didn't have too big an impact, because the PS4 has become cheaper to manufacture, Digital Spy said. Because of the impact of the Kumamoto earthquake, Sony hasn't provided a financial forecast for the next fiscal year. Despite how well the PS4 is doing, that hasn't stopped Sony from potentially developing a new and improved version of it with 4K capabilities. Recent reports suggest Sony will unveil an upgraded PS4 before the launch of its virtual reality headset in October.
