PanARMENIAN.Net - 2016 BB Film Productions and Bleiberg Entertainment have announced that they will produce “Predilection” to be directed by Marcio Garcia from a screenplay by Nate Parker (“The Birth of a Nation”), Variety reports.
The movie is inspired by Garcia’s short, “Predileção,” about a low-level criminal who meets a legendary thief during a brief jail stint. Together, they hatch a plan and assemble an international team for an elaborate bank robbery.
Uri Singer, Ehud Bleiberg and Parker are producing and Nicholas Donnermeyer is executive producer. Producers plan on a late 2016 start date.
Bleiberg Entertainment is handling the worldwide sales of the film and will introduce the project to buyers in Cannes.
“Nate is an incredibly talented storyteller and filmmaker,” Singer said. “It’s a fast-paced, twisting script with worldwide appeal.”
Parker’s “The Birth of a Nation” was sold to Fox Searchlight at Sundance for a record $17.5 million. He wrote, produced, directed and starred in the historical drama about Nat Turner, who led a slave rebellion in 1831. The movie won both the U.S. Grand Jury Prize (Dramatic) and the Audience Award (U.S. Dramatic) at the festival.
Garcia is a Brazilian-born director and actor. His most recent film as a director was “Open Road,” released by Universal and starring Andy Garcia and Camilla Belle.
Singer’s producing credits include “Experimenter” starring Peter Sarsgaard and Winona Ryder, which premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, and Michael Almereyda’s upcoming “Marjorie Prime” starring Jon Hamm, Tim Robbins, Geena Davis and Lois Smith.
He previously worked with Garcia as the producer on both “Open Road” and “Predilção.”
Bleiberg’s producing credits include “The Iceman” starring Michael Shannon, Chris Evans and Ryder; Paul Schrader’s “Adam Resurrected,” starring Jeff Goldblum and Willem Dafoe; and “The Band’s Visit,” which won Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival.
