Chris Cooper, Elizabeth Olsen board “Light on Broken Glass”

PanARMENIAN.Net - Patricia Clarkson is ready to take the stage for Isabel Coixet’s Broadway-set drama Light on Broken Glass, The Hollywood Reporter reveals.

The Maze Runner and Pieces of April star has signed on to play an acclaimed Broadway actress in the drama that will also star Chris Cooper and Elizabeth Olsen.

Clarkson will play Melody Harper, who is preparing for the revival of her hit Broadway show toward the end of her celebrated career and, for the first time in her life, she is uncertain and afraid. Struggling with the crushing possibility that her best years may be behind her, she quickly starts losing her grasp on reality as she experiences vivid memories of her younger self (played by Olsen). The budding romance with recent widower Jay (Cooper) is brought to a halt when an ex re-enters her life.

Sam Kressner wrote the screenplay.

“This is my personal homage to the magnificent, complex and layered world of actresses, and the real women behind them,” said Coixet, whose helming credits include Learning to Drive and Elegy.

International Film Trust is handling international sales for Light on Broken Glass and will introduce the project to buyers in Cannes. The company's slate includes Werner Herzog’s Salt and Fire, starring Michael Shannon and Gael Garcia Bernal.

Principal photography is slated to begin in late October in New York.

Daniel Dreifuss, whose No was an Oscar nominee in the foreign-language film category, is producing the film. Garrett Weaver is executive producing.

“Isabel is a brilliant actor's director, in particular female actors,” Dreifuss said. “She combines subtlety with emotional impact and visual style. This is a role Patricia’s immense talent so richly deserves.”
