3 16.05.16 - President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Vienna participated in the discussions initiated by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the countries-Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group Armenian, Azeri Presidents' meeting starts in Vienna May 16, 2016 - 23:22 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The meeting between President Serzh Sargsyan and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev kicked off in Vienna on Monday, May 16 evening. The summit is the first one since the escalation in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone. Also attending the meeting are the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs and the foreign policy chiefs of the co-chairing countries - Russia, France and the United States - Sergey Lavrov, Jean-Marc Ayrault and John Kerry. Prior to this, President Sargsyan met with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry. The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army.
